What is it like on a winter European motorhome trip?

October 7, 2020

Autumn has most definitely arrived here in France. With the disruptions to many camper’s trips this year, we still have a hardy lot currently on tour but what could you expect from a winter European motorhome trip?

Modern motorhomes have come a long way. Now most models have excellent heating throughout, cleverly designed windows to maximise natural light as well as lots of external storage space for those muddy walking boots and raincoats.

With many of the challenges 2020 has brought, campers have been delayed and trip dates pushed outside the normal peak travel times but as you are about to see campers are not to be denied their trip of a lifetime.

You can’t dampen our spirits

The ‘Blue fern’ family recently picked up their motorhome and started their European tour. What is a little rain when you have fine french wine and cheese to enjoy in the comfort of your camper!

Spectacular solitude

During the spring lockdown, our clients ‘Frenchy le Van’ spent the period in the South West of France but they are now well and truly off and running. It might only be October but exploring the Scottish Highlands is true wintery test by any standard! They seem to be loving exploring the walking trails, the beautiful scenery and solitude it brings.

Winter doesn’t mean winter weather

Europe is far from one homogenous area. A winter motorhome trip can be spent exploring the crisp days of Northern Europe or can just as well be spent on the warmer Mediterranean coast. Back in December 2017 another one of our camper clients enjoyed the beaches of Croatia and Montenegro. Whilst he mentions it was a bit chilly for a swim, it’s far from the harsh winter weather one might expect!

Wish you were here! No, seriously, we were the only people staying at a camping village resort that in the peak months entertains 4500 people a day. These are some of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic and we had them all to ourselves. Too bad the water was a little too chilly in December. . #Šimuni #beach #croatia #fulloflife #roadtrip #adultgapyear #traveltheworld #travelblogger #travellife #travelpics #exploringtheglobe #travelers #travel #adventure #naturelovers #exploreeverything #lovetheworld #digitalnomad #instatravel #travelgram #traveling #wonderlust #lifeofadventure #explore #myadventure #keepexploring

Get out there

Campers are a very independent and adventure seeking lot, not to be put off by less than perfect weather. In fact many prefer a winter European motorhome trip with the quieter roads and we regularly see clients heading off over the colder months.

With modern motorhomes being such high a standard these days, there’s no need to compromise on your trip, no matter what time of year you travel. Whether you are donning snow chains and exploring the Alps or heading to warmer pastures along the South coasts, you’ll have a great time. So get out there!
