New vs used, what should I buy?

Buying a brand new motorhome means you can choose the exact specifications and layout you would like

There is no one size fits all solution and your decision will depend on a number of factors such as the availability of vehicles that suit your needs, the time available between now and when you need the vehicle, your desire to have a manufacturer’s warranty and, of course, your budget.

Here are some potential pros and cons for both options:-

Buying a new vehicle pros

  • Minimum two year Manufacturer’s warranty
  • Never been used, slept in or cooked in
  • You choose the exact model with all the features you want
  • Latest models, layouts, engine technology and innovations

Buying a new vehicle cons

  • Delay between ordering & delivery (typically six months unless we have your chosen model in stock or production is imminent)
  • The choice of options will be very wide making the decision process longer
  • Higher initial capital outlay will be needed than if you buy used

Buying a used vehicle pros

  • Your vehicle will be available as soon as you have bought it
  • It may already have expensive accessories fitted and paid for by the seller
  • It may come fully equipped and ready for use (clients finishing trips and returning home for good are often happy to sell anything from bed linen to bicycles very inexpensively with their vehicle)
  • Your initial capital outlay will be lower than if you buy new

Buying a used vehicle cons

  • Short or no manufacturer’s warranty
  • You may have to compromise on the exact specification you were hoping for
  • Even the best kept of used vehicle will probably have some signs or wear and tear and the bed will definitely have been slept in by others!
